چکیده

Battery maintainers are widely used in marine and ground vehicles whose batteries have cycles of operation involving long periods of non-active life. Durability of such batteries, without proper maintenance, does not exceed one year. Extension of the battery life-time requires very thorough monitoring and periodic, preferably automatic recharging to replenish lost charge due to battery selfdischarge and external loads. Due to complex technical and environmental conditions, the battery chargerslmaintainers must satisfy very strict requirements what complicates processes of design. During the designing phases of battery maintainers, very thorough modeling and simulations are very important. It is necessary to include variable charging strategies, environmental issues, and the character of charged batteries. The paper discusses modeling and simulation of two major generic types of battery chargerslmaintainers. One type supplies the battery with constant current, another operates under constant charging voltage conditions. In both cases, the battery voltage and temperature must be monitored to define the best conditions for evaluation of the end of charging phase. In the paper, the results of simulations for the above battery maintainers are presented. Analog and digital control of charger/maintainer structures are presented.

On electric vehicle battery charger modeling

The increase of electric vehicle (EV) battery chargers connected to electric networks could lead to future harmonic problems in power systems. These loads are nonlinear devices that inject harmonic currents and pollute network voltages. Thus, battery charger modeling must be studied in detail to determine their harmonic emissions and prevent future problems. This paper investigates EV battery c...

Large Lithium Polymer Battery Modeling for the Simulation of Hybrid Electric Vehicles Using the Equivalent Circuit Method

In the present study, a model of a large Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) battery for use in the simulation of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) is developed. To attain this goal, an Equivalent Circuit (EC) consisting of a series resistor and two RC parallel networks is considered. The accuracy and the response time of the model for use in an HEV simulator are studied. The battery parameters identifica...

On-demand Mobile Charger Scheduling for Effective Coverage in Wireless Rechargeable Sensor Networks

Using mobile chargers in wireless rechargeable sensor networks is an option for charging the nodes due to the high cost of power chargers. In order to achieve some performance requirement such as coverage, it is necessary to effectively schedule the mobile chargers to serve every node in the network. We notice that nearly all previous works on mobile charger scheduling assume that the mobile ch...

An Adaptive Algorithm for Charger Deployment Optimization in Wireless Rechargeable Sensor Networks

Wireless chargers are used to refill sensors’ power supply in a wireless rechargeable sensor network (WRSN) so that the WRSN can operate sustainably. Since wireless chargers are costly, the problem about how to deploy as few as possible chargers to make a WRSN sustainable is important. This paper proposes a greedy algorithm, named adaptive pair based greedy cone selection (APB-GCS), to consider...
